Spotlight Article: Tinton Falls Celebrates Grand Opening of New Softball Fields

The Borough of Tinton Falls is proud to announce the grand opening of its state-of-the-art softball fields at the Sycamore Recreation Complex on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. This project represents a major achievement for the community, providing much-needed upgrades to the borough’s recreational facilities, particularly for youth sports.

The $2.5 million project, made possible through sound fiscal management by Mayor Perillo, Borough Administrator Charles Terefenko and the Tinton Falls Borough Council, was significantly boosted by grant funding, thanks to the dedicated support and efforts of Senator Vin Gopal. What began as a simple idea has now become a reality, benefitting the entire community.

The Sycamore Recreation Complex, already a popular destination for local sports, now features two new top-tier softball fields designed to support the Borough’s growing youth softball league. Field 1 was built with a high-quality synthetic turf infield and natural grass for the outfield, while Field 2 was built entirely with a high-quality synthetic turf. Both fields will provide a superior playing experience for athletes of all ages. Enhancements like new fencing, padding, backstops, dugouts, bleachers, and scoreboards ensure that the facilities are ready for both recreational games and competitive tournaments.

A key feature of the southern field is the installation of sports lighting, allowing evening games to take place. The project also includes ADA-accessible walkways, new storage areas, and improved stormwater management to enhance the overall functionality and accessibility of the park. Built to national safety standards, the fields include an 8-foot-high fence for player protection.

The new fields also address concerns brought forth by a growing girls youth program, coupled with the lack of state of the art, centralized, modern sports complex. The addition of these fields provides a centralized hub that rivals the recently renovated boys' facility, providing opportunities to host games and tournaments, across varying skill levels and age groups.

Beyond the softball fields, the project also includes a new synthetic turf soccer field, further expanding the recreational options at the complex. Despite these additions, the Borough ensured that the park’s cherished sledding hill, a winter favorite for local families, was preserved.

Through careful planning, the project was completed on time and under budget, delivering a modern, multi-purpose space that will serve Tinton Falls residents for years to come. The grand opening celebration on September 14th promises to be a moment of pride for the entire community, showcasing a facility that reflects Tinton Falls’ commitment to growth, inclusion, and community spirit.
